MAKCU: What It Is and How to Install It Step by Step in a DMA Setup

MAKCU is a small device that sits between your mouse and the PC you play on in a dual-PC DMA setup. Its job is to pass the mouse through at hardware level and accept commands from the second PC, so the mouse reaches your gaming PC naturally and reliably.

Torn between MAKCU, KMBox and KMNet? We have a full comparison. Here we focus on MAKCU itself: what it does, how to install it properly, and what to do if it doesn't work.

What does MAKCU do in the setup?

  • Passes the mouse through over USB: the mouse plugs into the MAKCU and the MAKCU plugs into the gaming PC, which sees a normal mouse.
  • Takes commands from the second PC: through a second port connected to the second PC, where it shows up as a serial (COM) port.
  • Dedicated processor: processing happens on the device itself, at up to 1000Hz with very low latency.
  • Open-source software: flexible to customise, and supported by many tools.

What you need before installing

  • The MAKCU.
  • Two PCs: the one you play on and the second one (usually a mini PC in a DMA setup).
  • A wired mouse.
  • Two USB cables that carry data (not charge-only).

Installation steps

  1. Plug the mouse into the MAKCU, in the mouse port.
  2. Connect the MAKCU to the gaming PC — preferably a motherboard USB port at the back, not a hub.
  3. Connect the control port to the second PC with the second cable.
  4. Check it shows up on the second PC: open Device Manager and look under "Ports (COM & LPT)" — a new port such as COM3 should appear. Note the number.
  5. Set the port in your software: in the settings of the program you use on the second PC, choose MAKCU (or KMBox compatibility if that's the option) and enter the port number.
  6. Test: move the mouse on the gaming PC and check it's smooth with no stutter, then try commands from the second PC.

Common problems and fixes

No COM port on the second PC

  • Usually a charge-only cable — try another data cable.
  • Try a different USB port on the second PC.
  • If an unknown device appears with an exclamation mark, it needs a serial-port driver — message us and we'll send you the steps.

The mouse doesn't move on the gaming PC

  • Make sure the mouse is in the correct mouse port on the MAKCU.
  • Unplug everything and reconnect in order: mouse, then MAKCU to the gaming PC, then the second PC.

Stutter or lag

  • Remove any USB hub and plug straight into the motherboard.
  • If your mouse polls higher than the setup supports, set it to 1000Hz in the mouse software.

The software says the device wasn't found

The port number in the software is wrong or changed after reconnecting. Go back to Device Manager and check the current number.

FAQ

Does MAKCU need software on the gaming PC?

No — the gaming PC sees a normal mouse. The software runs on the second PC.

What's its polling rate?

Up to 1000Hz, with a dedicated processor and very low latency.

Can I use a wireless mouse?

A wired mouse is better for a stable connection and the lowest latency.

Does it work with the 75T and 100T cards?

Yes — MAKCU completes a DMA setup alongside the Captain DMA 75T or 100T.
